Soul Ceremonies

Ceris Fender-Reid

Interfaith Minister and Independent Celebrant

I believe that a funeral should be true to the life of the one who is at the heart of it, and meaningful for those who love them. As your celebrant I work with you to create the ceremony that you want. One that reflects your beliefs and wishes and feels authentic to the life of the unique individual that you are honouring. Whether you have spiritual beliefs but not religious, have a religious background but do not want a traditional religious funeral or prefer a secular funeral I am happy to help.

I perform funeral ceremonies at crematoriums or burial sites, or you may want a memorial or celebration of life at your choice of location, indoor or outdoor, for as long as you want it to be. If you would like to take a more active role in performing some or all of the ceremony yourselves as a family or group of friends I can support you to plan this and be there on the day as a back up if you need it. I also provide ceremonies for scattering of ashes or anniversaries of deaths which can offer deeply healing support on your journey of loss and remembrance.

I offer holistic support to those facing the end of their life or that of someone close to them, and those experiencing the grief of loss.

In my funerals and other ceremonies and my work supporting individuals and their friends and family before and after the transition into death I hope to bring some sense of peace, comfort and healing, while honouring and celebrating the life and the love of a special human being.

I combine a natural sense of compassion with over 15 years' experience of working with people experiencing distress. When working with people facing their own death I aim to help them connect to what gives them joy and what really matters to them, while working towards a sense of increased  acceptance and peace. One of my clients, while reflecting on her life, spoke of how she was letting go of the superficial things in life as her physical health deteriorated while her inner spiritual world was becoming more important. Another reflected "love is what is it all about". In supporting people experiencing the devastation of a loss, while acknowledging the pain, I aim to help you to connect to the gift of the love that you shared.

If you wish to plan your own funeral, at any stage of life, I can offer sensitive support and guidance. The process of planning your own funeral can be a powerful journey in reviewing the meaning of your life and what you would like to express to the loved ones that you leave behind. I can also offer support in creating a memory box as a legacy for your loved ones. I am a member of the Natural Death Society and recommend their website for further information on planning your funeral.

In this work I draw upon my skills as a celebrant, a spiritual cousellor, a healing and holistic therapies practioner and a teacher of meditation and guided visualisation.
